Over the past six months, the cost of LPDDR memory — widely used in Raspberry Pi devices — has surged due to the overwhelming demand for High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) driven by AI applications. According to the company, memory now costs around 120% more than it did a year ago.
Why the Price Increase?
The surge in AI-related semiconductor demand has created a production bottleneck for LPDDR memory. Raspberry Pi initially mitigated the impact by relying on its large memory stockpiles, allowing prices to remain steady. However, as inventories have dwindled, the company now finds it necessary to adjust prices to reflect the new cost environment.
